Agricultural land tax and farm-level resource use and output supply response AgEcon

This study develops and uses a programming model for farm-level resource use and output supply response to estimate the effects of agricultural land tax in South Africa: A case study of Free State, a region of extremely large commercial farms that gained their size and economic heft during the apartheid years of aggressive subsidies, favorable tax treatment, lucrative state grants and gifts, and all manner of financial assistance. The results indicate that changes in land use and output supply are marginal. The highest effects are observed on irrigated farming. Relevant policy responses raised by the findings are discussed.

Modelling Risks in the Salmon Industry and Markets AgEcon

The paper proposes developing a trade model for salmon to assist in discussions and negotiations of current international salmon trade issues and major risk problems facing the salmon industry. Two modeling approaches are discussed: 1) developing a traditional equilibrium trade programming model designed to maximize total welfare across all model regions by solving for a medium-term price that balances the amount of salmon supplied by the world region to the among processed and consumed by this region; and 2) developing an econometric stochastic simulation model based on linear or non-linear equations. Producción de melón y sandía en la Comarca Lagunera: un estudio de planeación para reducir la volatilidad de precios. Colegio de Postgraduados

Actualmente los productores de melón (Cucumis melo L.) y sandía (Citrullus lanatus), productos que compiten por el uso de los recursos en la Comarca Lagunera, enfrentan el problema de bajos precios en los meses de junio, julio y agosto como consecuencia de la existencia de excesos de oferta temporales. Los excesos de oferta se originan por la concentración de la producción en algunos meses, o bien por dedicar una mayor superficie a alguno de los dos cultivos.
